Under the European Union-Myanmar Trade Development Programme (TDP), marine products, beans and pulses can be exported to Europe.

The launching ceremony of the TDP took place in Nay Pyi Taw on October 6, attended by Union Commerce Minister Win Myint, EU ambassador Roland Kobia and international entrepreneurs.

The TDP will be implemented with the technical assistance of the GIZ or German Corporation for International Cooperation, a company that specialises in international development.

The budget of 10.5 million euros (Ks15.4 billion) was co-funded by the EU and Germany.

Myanmar fish is now available in the EU and bean sprouts will soon appear under the EU regulations.

A trader said: “We can export it to the EU at a time when mung beans are harvested in Kayan and Thongwa next year. The volume will be 10,000 or 20,000 tonnes per year. They will buy our products only when the quality meets their expectations. We can export beans to the EU next harvest.”Source: Eleven Weekly Media
