    General description
    The SIMOTICS DC motors series 5, shaft heights 500 and 630, are available in the power range from 300 kW to 1610 kW as well as in the torque range from 8000 Nm up to 42000 Nm.
    The 6-pole motors have a laminated stator yoke and therefore permit dynamic converter operation with current rates of change up to 250 IN/sec.
    These motors always have a compensating winding.
    The high quality DURIGNIT 2000®insulation (according to insulation class F) guarantees safe and reliable operation and a long lifetime, also when subject to surge overload conditions. This insulation also means that the motors can be operated under unfavorable climatic conditions.
    As a result of the modular design, various cooling types and degrees of protection can be implemented with the basic motor.
    The 1GH5 basic motor with degree of protection IP23 does not have its own cooling and must be connected to an external cooling system. As 1GG5 motor with mounted separately-drive fan, the motor can be operated independently of a central cooling system.
    The degree of protection IP54 or IP55 is either achieved using a pipe connection at both ends or by mounting an air-/water cooler (1HS5) or air-/air cooler (1HQ5).
    For a cooling water intake temperature of 25 °C, the 1HS5 version has the same power rating as the 1GH5 version. The 1HQ5 version has approximately 70 % of the power of the 1GH5 version.
    An optimized separately-driven fan, a special main pole design as well as a skewed rotor result in low noise values, a low magnetic excitation and a high degree of concentricity.
